Unleashed 2013

When Peter and John were confronted with the lame man at the gate of the Temple begging for alms in Acts 3, they were very different men from the ones in the Gospels. Especially when Jesus was arrested, his most loyal followers that he had invested in, were nowhere to be found. They abandoned him. Including the leader of the group Simon Peter who would even deny 3 times that he was acquainted with the Lord Jesus. A denial that would precipitate in Simon returning to his occupation of fishing and living in misery.

Yet up to that point, Simon Peter demonstrated the heartiest of bravados and incredible insight. He was the one who would be the instrument of revelation when he uttered the indelible reply to Jesus’ question of ‘who do you say that I am?’ He answered ‘you are the Christ, the Son of the Living God’ Matt 16:16.

And as strong as Simon was, his strength was sourced from his own human will, attitude, emotion or whatever you may want to call it. This is evident immediately after that great revelation when Simon rebuked Jesus in an effort to be the saviour of Christ. The lord called him Satan.

Simon Peter was a man called of God yet he came so close to missing out on the will of God because he was too full of his own strength. He was full of himself.

But when you get to the Book of Acts, he was a changed man. He was now filled with the Spirit and when he ministered to the lame man, his words spoke with a sharpness of faith: “Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.” Acts 3:6

The old Simon Peter might have said; ‘I don’t have any money so I’m sorry I can’t help you.’ The new one knew what he had; the greatest power in the universe; he had God almighty in him. So he simply UNLEASHED the power of God residing within by faith.

This is our theme for 2013. UNLEASHED….. We may not feel like we have much or are not qualified. If we rely just on ourselves, it’s true; there’s not much to give. But if we recognize the power of God residing within us, we can unleash our faith and thus the power of all heaven upon this world.

This is what God has given me to challenge you this year. It’s time to pull the covers off of what we have, it’s time to bring out the light from under the bushel, it’s time to UNLEASH the Dunamis (power) of God’s Holy Spirit to a world in need.
